As a bride-to-be, you may not be very familiar with the bridal fashion world. Sure, you have probably daydreamed about what your wedding dress would look like, but as bridal stylists at Lovella, we know that wedding dress shopping can be overwhelming. There are many fashion terms that can be confusing and just trying to decide what style or silhouette wedding dress you want, like a ball gown or mermaid style, can take a lot of research and work. Perhaps in your wedding dress research, you have seen wedding dresses with overskirts. Or perhaps you have no idea what we are talking about! We recently shared advice for how to wear a wedding dress with an overskirt, and now we are back to share some of our favorite wedding dresses that have overskirts. If you're looking for a surprise element on your wedding day or to change up your bridal look, an overskirt might be a great option for your wedding day style!
What Is A Removeable Overskirt?
An important thing to know about overskirts on wedding dresses is that they come in both detachable or removable styles, and in styles that are permanent, meaning they are fixed onto the wedding dress and can't be taken off. For bridal dresses that have a detachable or removable overskirt, this is a great option for brides who want a 2-in-1 wedding day look. Taking off an overskirt completely changes the look and style of your wedding dress, which is why brides who want to change their look throughout their wedding day opt for a removable overskirt. Brides can remove the overskirt for dancing at the wedding reception while wearing the overskirt during the wedding ceremony. Many of wedding dresses with removable or detachable overskirts give you the sense of having two different wedding dresses. The main wedding dress under the overskirt often has a more fitted silhouette underneath, while the overskirt allows you to have the illusion of that princess-style ball gown bridal dress. This overskirt option allows brides to show off their curves while still having a dramatic bridal style.
It is also important to note that the overskirts that are detachable are sold separately from the wedding dress, so brides will essentially be buying two bridal dresses. Keep in mind that if you find a wedding dress you love, but would like to add a bit more drama or flair to your wedding day look, it may be possible to find a separate overskirt that matches the wedding dress style.
How To Wear An Overskirt
If you have questions about an overskirt or are wondering how to wear or remove it, be sure to watch our video on how to wear an overskirt with your wedding dress. One of our brides had questions about overskirt logistics and how to wear one on your wedding day, so we make a video for all of the brides out there who had questions about overskirts. She wanted to know when is best to take off your overskirt and how to best be photographed in your wedding dress with or without an overskirt. We also wrote a blog post on how to wear an overskirt with your wedding dress.
