Shopping for your wedding dress and wondering the best way to order your gown? Everything is so easy to “add to cart” and order online these days so do you really need to order your wedding dress in person at a bridal store? Can you buy your wedding dress via phone or email after your shopping appointment?
We are going to share the pros and cons of ordering your wedding dress in person during your bridal shopping appointment versus calling in or emailing your order after your appointment has passed. Purchasing a wedding dress is a big ticket item, and bridal dresses are final sale items, so you want to be sure to get your order right.

Be Ready To Buy
At Lovella, we are honored to be a destination bridal shop for many of the brides searching for their wedding dress. We carry a number of exclusive wedding dress collections so we often have brides traveling from outside the Los Angeles area to shop with us. We know that purchasing a wedding dress is a big decision to make and you want to know you are making the right choice.
After their wedding dress shopping appointment, some brides are not quite ready to make their dress purchase. Perhaps they have to decide what credit card they want to use to make their order or the person who will be paying for their wedding gown is not there with them at the time of their appointment. No matter the reason, more and more brides have been waiting to order their wedding dress, opting to call in or email their order.
Less Room For Error
When wedding dress shopping, you should always be ready to purchase your wedding dress. You never know when you will fall in love with a dress, so you should be in the right headspace to make the purchase and have your budget and finances aligned. Placing your wedding dress order at the time of your bridal appointment, when you are still in the bridal store, is so much easier. Buying your wedding dress in person allows for less margin of error.
If you complete your wedding dress in person, there is a better chance that the order will be correct. Of course there is always room for human error, but completing your order in person, while everything is still fresh in yours and your bridal stylist’s minds, means less of a chance for something to get lost in translation.
Wedding dresses are final sale items as they are made to order. You want to ensure the color, the size, the style and all your accessories are the same as what you tried on and fell in love with. This is especially true if you are making any changes or customizations to the dress, you want to make sure all those details are correct.
Size Matters
It is much easier to also have your wedding dress measurements taken in store as well. A bridal stylist may be able to talk you through it over the phone, but there is a chance for you to not be measuring in the right spot or for numbers to get transposed when communicating over the phone.
You want to be sure you are starting with the right size when placing your wedding dress order as each designer’s size chart may vary slightly. If you are not ready to order your wedding dress while you are in store, we would at least suggest you have the consultant take your measurements before you leave so it will be in your notes for future ordering.
Revisit The Store
If you decide to call your bridal store in the future to place your order, know that you may not be working directly with your bridal stylist. You may be communicating with someone else to place your order and you might just be relying on the past appointment notes. It’s so much easier to finalize your wedding dress in person when everything is fresh in the mind.
If at all possible, we would recommend coming back into the store to place your wedding dress order, even if it is on a different day. This eliminates some of the risk for errors and you can make sure everyone is on the same page. Making a second appointment to finalize your wedding dress purchase can also help eliminate buyer’s remorse as you can ensure all of your choices still fit your vision for wedding day and you will know exactly what pieces you are ordering.
No matter how you decide to order your wedding dress and accessories, be sure to communicate clearly with your bridal stylist. While we think ordering in person is best, make sure there are clear notes about sizing and dress options before leaving your shopping appointment so it will be easier to revisit when you are ready to buy your dress.
