Once you have found your dream wedding dress, the next step is to style your wedding dress and choose your bridal accessories. Finding the bridal gown you want to walk down the aisle wearing is such an exciting moment, but it is styling and accessorizing the dress that can truly make you feel “bridal”. The most common bridal accessory would have to be a wedding veil. At Lovella, we love a veil moment and always encourage our brides to at least try on a couple of veils even if they think they don’t want to wear a veil on wedding day.
When it comes to bridal hair accessories, we are often asked how to wear a wedding veil and where to place the veil on your head. A wedding veil does take a bit of finessing to wear one correctly but our expert tips will help guide you in knowing how to properly wear a wedding veil with a bridal headpiece.

Brides who are ready to accessorize their wedding dress may be considering wearing a wedding veil or a bridal headpiece. Before you decide on your wedding day bridal accessories, be sure to watch our advice video for all the best tips on how to wear a veil with a bridal headpiece.
Wedding Veil Placement
The number one question we get from brides about wedding veils is where to place the veil on wedding day. As a general rule, your wedding veil should be worn at the crown of your head. This can vary slightly depending on your bridal hairstyle. If you have a low bun hairstyle, you can place the veil comb just above the bun at the crown of the head. If you have a high bun hairstyle, we’d recommend placing the veil just below your bun.
You want to avoid placing the veil too low or at the bottom of your hair because then it will just look like it’s coming out of your neck. If your veil is too low and looks like you have tulle coming out of your neck, you will miss out on some of the visual drama a wedding veil can add.
Placing your veil at the crown of your head allows for the veil to flow more and spread out from the top. This allows your veil to wrap around your shoulders or be flipped back to flow behind you. There is a lot of versatility when it comes to wearing a wedding veil.
Wedding Veil Combs
Your wedding veil will be attached to a hair comb which is what keeps your veil in place in your hair. There can be a lot of confusion around which way to place the comb into your hair. A wedding veil is not an accessory you wear everyday, so it’s understandable that you wouldn’t know the correct way to place the comb.
The veil comb will have a curve to it. You want to place the curve of the comb to align with the curve of your head so that the veil comb lays against your head smoothly. It’s common to think it should go the other way, but you want the comb and your head to follow the same contour.
If you are working with a professional hair stylist for your wedding day hair, they will be able to help with the proper alignment of your wedding veil and help you make sure your veil is secured in your hair before your walk down the aisle. You can also use two bobby pins crisscrossed as a kind of anchor point for the hair comb to slide into.
Bridal Headpieces
In addition to a wedding veil, you may be thinking of wearing another bridal hair accessory. Perhaps you love the idea of a crown or hairpins to add another element and dimension to your bridal look. A wedding veil can be worn with any other bridal headpiece you wish you wear.
Your bridal accessories are a great way to really personalize your bridal look and express your personality. Remember that you are not going to wear your wedding veil for the entire wedding day. Most brides remove their veil before the wedding reception, especially if it is a long veil, so that it will not be in the way of greeting guests and dancing the night away.
So whether you are wearing a crown or tiara or perhaps add in hairpins or barrettes to your bridal hairstyle, they can be worn with a wedding veil over top. They will be a fun little peekaboo moment showing through the veil and then revealed later in the day when you take off your veil.
Some of our favorite bridal headpieces can be worn in multiple ways that work great when paired with a veil. There are some headpieces that can be worn more like a headband or crown with the veil placed behind and then you can turn them around and hear more like a halo on the back of the head for a second look when your veil is removed.
Even if you are wearing a bridal hair comb, we still recommend following the same rule of placing your veil at the crown of your head. It can lay right over the hair comb and then you still have that element of surprise when the veil is removed.
