What is Silk Mikado?

Before we discuss how to style bridal gloves with a silk mikado wedding dress, let’s cover what silk mikado means in the bridal world. If you are not very familiar with bridal fashion and fabrics, you might not have any idea what silk mikado is or what fabrics are typically used in wedding dresses.

Silk mikado is a type of fabric that is commonly used in wedding dress designs. Mikado silk is an elegant fabric that is made of blended silk that has a shiny finish and a thicker structure so it’s ideal for bridal fashion. Sometimes the fabric is completely plain and simple and undecorated. Other times you will find a mikado silk that has some floral or lace detailing. No matter what type of fabric you choose for your wedding dress, the sky is the limit when it comes to your bridal accessories, as long as you are staying true to your personality and fashion sense.

Style to Your Personality

Your wedding dress can be a blank canvas for you to style however you wish. Your bridal accessories should help you express your personality and make you feel the most beautiful and confident when walking down the aisle to marry your person.

Whether you are choosing bridal gloves, a wedding veil, or a bridal headpiece, there are going to be an almost endless variety of styles and types of accessories to choose from. Pick your bridal accessories to complement your wedding dress and highlight your personal style. It’s just like when you pick a special outfit to wear for a date night or your birthday celebration. If you love what you are wearing and feel good wearing it, it affects how you will express yourself. You might walk a little taller and your energy will be palpable. If you love your wedding dress, it’s going to show in how you walk and talk on wedding day and you can’t put a price tag on that confidence.

When deciding on your bridal accessories, be sure to also take photos to see how the looks translates from the mirror to photographs. Your wedding photos and video will be what lasts a lifetime so you want to be sure you love the look you see in the mirror as well as in photos.

Styles of Bridal Gloves

When selecting bridal gloves to wear with your wedding dress, you want them to help bring out your personality and raise your energy because you are excited to wear them on wedding day and are excited about your entire bridal outfit. No matter what your bridal style may be, there will be bridal gloves to suit your wedding dress and personality.

For a timeless look, you could opt to wear a classic satin glove. This style of bridal glove will feel traditionally bridal and elegant. If you wedding dress is a bit more modern, a classic satin glove can add in that timeless feature. If your dress is already classic in style, a traditional glove will add even more of a classic feeling.

If you are looking for a bit more variety in your bridal gloves, a lace option might be a good fit for you. A lace bridal glove will again give you some of that classic bridal style while also adding in a bit of texture. This can be a great tie in to a lace wedding veil as well.

Another beautiful option for bridal gloves is tulle. There are many different styles of tulle gloves available, from just simple sheer tulle to ones that may have some sparkle sequins or pearl studs for a little extra flair.

In addition to thinking about what style and fabric suits your bridal style best for bridal gloves, you will also have to decide on length. You probably traditionally think of bridal gloves as being very long and elegant going past the elbow. But there are options for short, wrist-length bridal gloves as well.

Gloves and Wedding Rings

If you are thinking about wearing gloves with your wedding dress, the number one question you likely have is “what do I do with my rings?” And that is a good question! There are a few options for brides wearing gloves on wedding day, but you certainly want to consider the logistics before you are standing at the altar.

Depending on what type of glove you choose, you may be able to place your rings on top of your gloves. This can be true if you are wearing a thinner glove, like a tulle style. Many bride’s rings are going to be sized so they would be too snug to go overtop of a their glove. If your rings will not fit overtop of the glove, it’s possible you may be able to wear it under the gloves. If you have sheer style, your rings will beautifully peek through the fabric.

Even if you choose gloves that are not transparent, you can still plan to wear your rings under your gloves and then just remove one or both gloves for the ring exchange. You can remove one glove and just hold that glove with your bouquet when you walk back down the aisle. Or take a moment to remove both gloves and have your maid of honor hold them during the ring exchange.

Another option is to choose a style of glove that is fingerless so you can still have the glove look without worrying about what to do during the ring exchange. Test out what works for you ahead of wedding day so you have a plan in place. There are a lot of options and room for creativity here.
