We are hosting several events this week: Wednesday, 11/9, is our Brides Across America event and beginning Thursday world renowned designer Ines Di Santo is unveiling her 2012 haute couture collection. That same night we’re especially excited to present our “Beauty Series” segment of our ongoing Bridal Series event.
Making an appearance at “Beauty Series” this Thursday, and sharing fabulous tips for brides-to-be, is Mariah Nicole of Mariah Nicole Makeup & Hair Artistry. She is one of three makeup artists attending our “Beauty Series” event and we’ve had the pleasure of working with her for a little over two years. She’s been doing hair and applying makeup since she was a teen, assisting her mother who was a professional makeup artist. After training under the Laura Mercier company in New York City she returned in LA in 2002 and promptly started her own (very successful) business.
A special thanks goes to Mariah Nicole for chatting with us. Enjoy this exclusive interview!
Q: Where do you find inspiration for your artistry?
I am inspired by each person I work on. Sometimes I see a look in a magazine, or on a random woman, but often my inspiration is “of the moment.”
Q: What’s your favorite event for which to do hair/makeup?
This is hard to answer! I love the versatility of my work. In weddings, or model shoots, the part I love best is the smile on my client’s face.
Q: What beauty trends are hot right now in the world of bridal?
Brides are moving away from tiaras and are embracing delicate hair clips with feathers or flowers, but always with bling! Also, I see less brides wearing veils and opting for a look that is more “evening” than “bridal.”
Q: What’s a great hair/makeup look for a fall bride?
For fall brides a great look is a soft smokey eye (using grays or purples) and a berry or red lip. As long as the eyes are not too dark, it looks great. I love it!
Q: What is your absolute must-have beauty/makeup product?
I stand by several: Aqua Liner pencils from Makeup For Ever (above left; $23, Sephora), Pro Longwear Lipcolour by MAC (above middle; $22, M-A-C Cosmetics), and Jane Iredale mineral powders (above right; janeiredale.com).
Q: What are your beauty tips or advice for brides-to-be?
The best tip I can give is to take care of your skin NOW. Exfoliation and hydration make a huge impact on the surface quality of the skin, which directly affects how your makeup will look.
