(source) We’re often intrigued when we see a bride carrying a bouquet adorned with a lady cameo at the handle. Often this piece is a family heirloom, passed down from mother to daughter perhaps various times, for various occasions. So what’s behind this lady cameo? A cameo, resulting from a commissioned portrait, was a prized possession for many a Victorian woman. However, “another kind of portrait appeared with an anonymous woman” this site states. Cameo designers soon introduced the cameo habillé (dressed), which “depicts the portrait of an idealized woman adorned with jewelry.
