Lovella Loves…

How this bride, in photos by Edyta Szyszlo Photography, literally let her hair down for the reception. This bride’s look was transformed simply with the change of hairstyle. She wore a formal chignon updo for the ceremony, only to let it partially loose for photos and the reception. Not every bride has the luxury (or budget) of having two wedding dresses for her big day: a knock-out dress for the wedding ceremony and a more dance-worthy frock for the reception. For brides on a budget: Maybe the secret isn’t to buying more, but transforming what you have.

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge’s Hair Inspiration

She may be the most admired woman in the world. Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge (or Kate Middleton, as so many people still call her), has made many appearances and visits under the watchful eye of photographers all over the world. While it’s hard not to admire her wardrobe of designer apparel, her carefully-coifed hair is often the highlight of an appearance. Catherine’s hair stylist, Rosanno Ferretti, revealed recently that the secret product behind the Duchess’ tresses is Shu Uemura Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Oil. While a 5 oz. bottle costs $69, it may be worth the splurge for a bride (and her ‘maids) on her big day. Here we share some of our favorite bridal-worthy looks from Catherine; many of our picks are of her now-signature semi-chignon (replicate her look here). Go ahead, Pin a few of your favorites and get inspired!   (Above) April 29, 2011: For her wedding […]

Beauty: Hair & Makeup at the 2012 Golden Globes

Awards season kicked off with a fashionable bang with the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards. Just as eyes were on the movies and the nominees, and subsequently the winners, they were on the fashion: gowns, shoes, jewelry and clutches. But don’t forget the hair and makeup! Below are some of our favorite looks and trends from the Globes, such as a bold red lip, blue liner and bombshell hair. However, risk-takers were in the minority; many of the stars kept the makeup pretty subtle. Brides: take note. We can’t wait for the Academy Awards.     Bold Red Lips worn to perfection, with a red dress by Dianna Agron, and a red-accented gown by Angelina Jolie. Blue and Black Eyeliner added sultriness to a formal event on Emma Stone, Laura Linney, Amanda Peet, and Debra Messing. Sparkling Headbands added youthfulness to the looks of Charlize Theron and Michelle Williams. Bombshell […]

Hair Trend: Chignons

A chignon is a popular pick for a bride seeking a classic, tailored hairstyle on her wedding day. The word chignon comes from the French phrase “chignon du cou,” which means nape of the neck (source). Though there are numerous variances of chignons, our favorite is hair gathered right at or just above the neck.
