In celebration of the Ines Di Santo Boutique unveiling and her upcoming visit, Ines Di Santo took time out of her busy couture-filled schedule to answer questions for us and you. Enjoy!
LB: Who is the Ines Di Santo bride?
INES: A bride who is sophisticated and looking for a gown with vibrant femininity, marked by superb fit, originality and inimitable construction. She most definitely enjoys elegance, simplicity and glamour in a design.
LB: What 5 words describe the Ines Di Santo brand?
INES: Sophisticated, elegant, intricate, glamorous and feminine.
LB: How did Atlantis become an influence on your Fall/Winter 2014 Couture Collection?
INES: We were very much inspired by an “incredible lightness of being” and decided to use light fabrics such as airy tulles and soft organzas to capture this emotion in the collection. These fabrics have a unique behavior and the best way to describe them is how they behave underwater.
LB: What is your design process?
INES: We begin by mounting tear sheets, fabric swatches, and other inspirational pieces and create a “feeling” and direction for the collection. Next, sketches are developed within this concept and fabrics and beading are selected for these sketches. We then make a final selection to a well-edited, strong and viable collection.
LB: Which designers do you look up to?
INES: Dior, Chanel & Valentino—three favorites!
LB: You’ve said “every city is an inspiration.” How does Los Angeles inspire you?
INES: Los Angeles has so much variety. We feel that there are so many different brides in the city and it is exciting to design for such a broad spectrum because the Ines Di Santo brand is so versatile. I myself would wear different bridal gowns for each hour to match a different mood or concept thought the wedding day!
LB: What does the future hold for Ines Di Santo?
INES: Short term: Evening wear is on the horizon. Long term: The sky is the limit. I prefer not to nail it down, but let it unfold and be a surprise.
